EDLD 5363 Week 5 Team Reflection

I believe I learned a lot through our team experience. We had to overcome some hurdles. One such hurdle was figuring out how to make a video collaboratively while all living in different parts of Texas. I think we worked well together. One of the things I learned was how to send a video file. Video files are most of the time too big to email so a team member discovered that in Skype any size file or type can be transferred. We were able to do this successfully. For the pre-production phase we formed a proposal together. For the production, we realized some changes needed to be made due to formatting issues and keeping the video within the time limit. The post-production Phase has been about tying up loose ends and making sure we have followed the rubric including all the necessary elements. We used you tube to deliver our PSA to the web. With more exposure with sharing video files and compatible formatsI imagine we could improve. All of the work was created by our group and a creative commons copyright was created for our PSA. Our group communicated through google doc’s and through email.

EDLD 5363 Multimedia Video Technology week 4

Our group collaboration is located below in our collaboration doc. I enjoyed working with our team. Ryan, Armon and Dave all had great input from ideas to what we were supposed to submit each week. It was nice to work with others. This has been a great learning experience. I have previously made videos and was comfortable with editing software, but never have I tried to work with a group and share video files. This presented a challenge. One of our team members found out that with Skype you can send any type file and any size file while video conferencing. This worked very well. It makes sure that the receiver accepts the file. I thought this was a nice safety feature.

EDLD 5363 week 2 Podcast on Video Editing Software

I have been creating end of the year videos for my class for several years. I started out using Adobe Premiere Elements to create the videos. I enjoyed using this software. In Adobe when you change a picture in Photoshop and you have already put it inside of Adobe Premiere the software will change it in Premiere if you have not published your video yet. I got a new computer an iMac and looked for a Mac version of Adobe Premiere Elements and at the time they did not have a version for Mac, but they did have Adobe Premiere Pro available. This was definitely out of my budget. I began to use iMovie and loved it. They both are similar in their ease of use and both have similar features. The layout is similar allowing you to layer your audio and video, add text on top, create green screen capture and many others. They are different in their ease of use when you need to change something you don’t like. In iMovie you can just select and delete it, then start over. In Adobe if you delete a scene the timeline has to be adjusted and is more complex than with iMovie. Another feature in iMovie I love is the library of sound effects that are available. This makes it simple to create awesome videos with sound effects without having to locate or purchase them from another site. Also in iMovie it is easy to trim and edit clips more so than in Adobe. The bottom line for me is that iMovie is the way to go if you have a Mac. It is easy to use and has some great advanced features, but is beginner friendly.
I believe that students would learn a great deal from multimedia video editing.
As Garrison puts it in one of our readings this week,""Media production engages and excites; it leads to unexpected discoveries, increased self-awareness and esteem, sharpened critical thinking, analytical skills, group work skills, and ability to communicate ideas. "Garrison (1999)I believe Multimedia creation is a great learning tool that incorporates 21st century learning skills. Students need to learn how to convey information in a clear, precise, and succinct manner in order to be successfully heard and understood.

EDLD 5363 Reflections from Week One Assignment to Create a Personal Digital Story

To be honest, I struggled in the beginning with knowing what story to tell, what pictures I had available to tell a story, and the uncomfortableness that I felt in sharing a personal story about myself. As I begun to make the video, I reflected on memories that I had not thought of recently. I remembered my grandmother and the lessons she taught me and the ways she influenced my life. It was a great experience. I can see the value of Digital Storytelling. Kids today are surrounded by visual stimulus, it is what they are used to and part of how they learn. Having them create a digital story would be a great way to engage students in learning.

Cast UDL Lesson Plan Builder

I found the Cast UDL Lesson Plan builder very helpful. It is a great guide to make sure the UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principals are included in your lesson. This was an interesting study of incorporating diverse learning styles to accommodate all types of learners and learning disabilities. The studies they have done on how the brain processes information is very interesting and I look forward to learning more and exploring their site further.
